The 2025 Edisto Island Plein Air Paint Out (back in October) was a big success. Sponsored by the Edisto Art Guild, I was on the committee and responsible for organizing access to several beautiful locations on private property. Over 100 artists came to Edisto for the 5-day event, culminating in a "Wet Paint" exhibit, judging and sale. We had great weather, the artists had a wonderful time and created impressive paintings! Helping with the team arranging the art for the exhibit was a fun task.
I am not as fast a painter as some, so I spent two mornings working on a 5" x 7" at Seaside House, which was purchased by a family member of the owner. Then two afternoons at Point of Pines and a productive morning at Botany Bay Plantation painting trees. Plein air painting can be challenging, but nothing beats the direct experience with one's subject matter. I try to be as faithful as I can to what I am seeing, while it also takes simplification and interpretation of color shifts to make the painting a success. As clouds roll in or out and shadows move, I find it hard not to continue making changes!
